We are thrilled to welcome ceramic artist Jihyun Kim from London to Lüt Studio for a two-day masterclass. Over one immersive weekend you will slipcast, decorate and glaze your very own Moonjar, guided by one of the most distinctive young voices in contemporary ceramics.

The weekend opens on Friday evening with a public artist talk, followed by two days of hands-on making. You will work with porcelain casting slip, learn surface decoration techniques, and finish your piece with Jihyun's signature “Gloop” glaze.

Friday 25 Sep · 18:00 to 19:00

Public artist talk

An evening talk on Jihyun's practice, inspirations and the world of the Moonjar (40 min), followed by an open Q&A (20 min). Open to all participants.

Saturday 26 Sep · 10:00 to 16:00 · 1 h lunch break

Day 1 — Slipcasting & surface decorating

  • Introduction & slipcasting demonstration
  • Pouring the slip into your Moonjar mould
  • Unmoulding & pouring out the slip
  • Surface decoration: slip trailing, nerikomi & sieve textures
  • Decorating your slipcast Moonjar

Sunday 27 Sep · 10:00 to 13:00

Day 2 — The Gloop glaze

  • Example pieces & Gloop glaze demonstration
  • Decorating your Moonjar with Gloop glaze

Your finished pieces will be glaze-fired by Lüt Studio after the workshop and ready for collection.

About Jihyun Kim

Jihyun Kim (b. 1997) is a ceramic designer from South Korea, blending tradition with enchantment in her craft. Her work weaves together sculptural and functional elements, drawing on her cultural heritage and the mystical side of nature, especially organic forms such as fungi, to infuse each piece with a quiet magic.

She holds a Master of Arts in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art, and her work has been shown internationally at events including Milan Design Week and the British Ceramic Biennale. She currently creates from her studio in South East London.
